Welcome to Bread and Roses and the Kitchen Sink, an online discussion forum for women who are, or were, the primary breadwinners for their families in Canada and the United States. This forum is a place for breadwinning mothers to share their experiences with one another, but it also serves as a site of research conducted for an upcoming book on an intriguing set of issues around motherhood, paid and unpaid work, and earning.

Through this discussion forum, as well as through in-depth interviews with a small group of Canadian and American mothers, I am hoping to hear about your challenges and successes. What supports you and constrains you? What is the role of your partner, your family, your friends, your kin? What do you let go of and what do you hold onto? If you were a primary breadwinner who shifted out of that role, why did you do so? If you are a longtime primary breadwinner, what has helped you to stay there?
